Construction works on the planned illuminated parking lot on the northern shore of Lake Vértó began on March 2, 2026, and are expected to last a total of two months. The parking area will provide space for 70 passenger cars and 6 buses. The parking spaces will be made of grass grid panels, while the connecting road will be constructed from asphalt concrete. The parking lot will be illuminated by 9 electric poles with a total of 13 light fixtures. The dimensions of the designated construction area are 62 m × 50 m. The works are being carried out in accordance with the requirements of the Nature Protection Institute.
The value of the investment is approximately 18.7 million dinars, excluding VAT. The project is financed by the Ministry of Tourism and Youth and the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina – Provincial Secretariat for Urbanism and Environmental Protection (Novi Sad).

A Christmas fair was held in Palić, in front of the Grand Terrace, where visitors could enjoy a rich offer of local products, hot drinks, holiday specialties and a diverse entertainment program for all generations in a festive atmosphere throughout the day.

Several thousand Subotica residents of all ages gathered at the starting line in front of the Grand Terrace to participate in the traditional “Santa Claus” race in Palić.

Not even the rain stopped them from doing so, because, as we know, children grow from it.

“I’m running to win a gold medal,” little Nikola Torbica confided in us.

His peer, Vanesa Buljovčić, told RTV that she “loves this race the most in the world.”

Santa Claus gave them strength for the race with a meal of slices of bread spread with lard. And so that no child would go hungry during the holidays, the Red Cross collected donations.

“The Red Cross, like every year, is trying to provide packages for children who are fed at the People’s Kitchen, of which there are currently around 300,” said Zoran Molnar from the Red Cross of Subotica.

The Santa Claus Race has been held for 26 years, organized by the PE “Park Palić”, and its creator is ultramarathoner Elvira Janosi.

“This is a very nice event. Children don’t have snow these winter days and they can’t go ice skating. We wanted them to be happy during this day, and for families to be together,” says Elvira Janosi, recalling that last year around 3,000 Subotica residents participated in the race.

The event participants enjoyed the gifts brought by Santa Claus, dancing with his reindeer and the New Year’s bear who arrived ahead of time for the celebration, as well as the crocodile with his mermaid girlfriend.

All participants in the race were richly rewarded. In fact, they all received gold medals.

The oldest Santa Claus, through RTV, sent everyone many greetings and wishes to be healthy, loved and happy.

The “Santa Claus Run” in Palić was very popular this year as well. Despite the rain, more than 1,000 runners wearing Santa hats took part in the event, who had to cover a one and a half kilometer long course.

The winter sports event also has a humanitarian character – participants help children in difficult financial situations with their donations.

The popular race started on Sunday at 11 a.m. in front of the Grand Terrace in Palić, where a large crowd gathered. Participants could cross the course by running or walking.

Nikoleta Šebek and Leda Miklos: “We almost came first. We’ll come next year too. I met my teacher now, I love her very much, I was happy to see familiar faces.”

Runners were required to wear a Santa hat or costume. The youngest participant in the event was a baby just one and a half months old, and the oldest runner was 81 years old. This is a true family event and many return for years.

Timea Biro: “I think this is a very nice event. It’s wonderful that so many children and families get out, even in the rain. There’s also a humorous side to it, because we’re running with Santa hats. I think this is a great community-building event.”

Upon reaching the finish line, the children received medals, and all participants were treated to hot tea and bread with lard. The youngest were entertained by an animator.

Elvira Janosi, organizer: “This is a day that is beautiful for small, large, young and old. No one is obliged to run – you can walk, talk, the most important thing is that everyone is happy.”

The event also has a humanitarian aspect – Red Cross volunteers from Subotica collected packages for the beneficiaries of the Soup Kitchen.

The 25th anniversary Santa Claus Race was held in Palić, an event that brought together lovers of the festive atmosphere and recreation.

This race, which has already become traditional, attracted participants of all generations, and the only requirement for participation was wearing a Santa Claus hat. An endless column of Santas of all generations flowed around Palić, the sunny day was ideal for a race or a walk, and after the race, people enjoyed bread with lard and paprika and hot tea.

Regardless of age or fitness level, hundreds of participants, from the youngest to the oldest, enjoyed this event. The course was adapted to everyone – both runners and walkers, because the goal of the event was not competition, but socializing, joy and celebrating the holiday spirit together.

All participants received medals, and those with the most creative Santa costumes won special prizes.

This year, the event also has a special humanitarian character. All participants and visitors are invited to bring packages and thus contribute to the campaign “Be a Santa Claus!” The goal is to make children who need such gestures of support and joy the happiest through donations.

Palić was filled with joy and happiness that day, and the jubilee Santa Claus Race once again proved how important such events are for the community and the preservation of holiday traditions.

The event is organized by Park Palić, the Ultramarathon Federation of Serbia, and the City of Subotica.

On December 1, 2024, Palić became the happiest place in northern Serbia, gathering hundreds of Santa Claus.

This is slowly getting us into the December mood in the right way.

U nedelju, 1. decembra se održava tradicionalna manifestacija „Trka Deda Mrazeva“ po 25. put na Paliću.

Manifestacija se održava u periodu od 10 do 13 časova, a sam start trke je predviđen u 11 časova u Velikom Parku.
